Mark your calendar now! The next road commission meeting will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Ken Kunkel Community Center (Goldstream Park, near Goldstream Store and Ivory Jack's). All residents are welcome to attend. Discussion about the culvert installation at the Moose Mtn. T intersection, possible realignment of the road, etc.

12/14/07  A group is forming that wants to collaboratively install a large (25kW) solar power system here in Fairbanks. The system would be owned by the individuals who participate in its construction. It will be tied into the grid via the SNAP program (GVEA) and the amount of money produced as green energy will be split up proportionally to the shares.

If you are interested, please contact uncommon_ground@yahoo.com and have a look at their flyer. You may also contact Franziska fnfk@uaf.edu and Pete 347-4479 who are the initial coordinators of the solar initiative.

9/30/04 A former State Trooper passed on this winter driving tip:
When going downhill, putting an automatic transmission into a lower gear (not too low, but lower than "drive") or keeping a stick shift in a lower gear, can slow the vehicle down without losing traction or steering capability.

People have a tendency to use their brakes in icy downhill conditions. This tends to cause the vehicle's tires to break traction, slide, and ultimately lose steering control. Using the transmission to slow the vehicle down is much more productive than using the brakes.

10/27/03This table from the D.O.T. concerns the number of vehicles that used Spinach CK Rd in May 2003. It's interesting to note that vechicle use on Spinach CK Rd in May was below Moose Mtn Rd road use in October.
10/27/03This very informative table from the D.O.T. concerns the number of vehicles that used Moose Mtn. Rd. from Sept 27 through Oct. 9, 2003. Each record is one trip over the counter on the road, so a trip out to town and back would count as 2 records. We'll talk more about it at the next road service meeting on 11/6/03. Amazing how many vehicles use this road!!
